Les 3 conseils pour protéger la peau de nos ados du soleil

The 3 tips to protect the skin of our teenagers from the sun

Pre-teen, blemish-prone and acne-prone skin needs to be prepped before more intense sun exposure. During each exposure, she also needs appropriate care to prevent the rebound effect that occurs after exposure and can amplify acne.

Why does the sun accentuate acne ?

When skin with imperfections is exposed to the sun, the pimples initially fade because in contact with the sun it thickens (which reduces the pimples), then it dries out (which reduces the shiny effect of skin produced by excess sebum). The main cells involved in this phenomenon are the following:

  • Melanocytes, pigment cells secreting melanin, responsible for the brown color of tanning, protect against UV radiation. The epidermis of the child, having fewer melanocytes than that of the adult, is more fragile, therefore naturally less protected against UV rays.
  • Keratinocytes, cells that synthesize keratin, participate in cell renewal. They are essential to the constitution of the epidermis to protect the skin from external aggressions. When the skin is in prolonged contact with the sun, these cells are transformed at the level of the most superficial layer of the epidermis into corneocytes, that is to say keratinocytes at the end of their life.
During exposure, these cells will accumulate to protect the skin from UV radiation and cause the thickening of the stratum corneum (at the same time favoring the clogging of pores and the release of sebum secreted upstream). As soon as the skin is no longer exposed to the sun as much , the epidermis will gradually regain its original thickness and thus make the acne reappear.

Our 3 tips to prevent the rebound effect

1- Prepare your skin for the sun

Prepare your skin with a cure of food supplements:

At least 1 month before the start of the exhibition, start a treatment with my clear skin gummies to prepare the skin and provide it from within with all the nutrients it will need to fight against the harmful effects of the sun.

How to choose your cure before exposing your skin to the sun?

Move towards natural solutions, better assimilated by the body and respect the dosages as well as the treatment time indicated.
Beware of certain treatments that can be “photosensitizing”. Indeed, some substances contain molecules that react to UV rays, their structure changes during exposure to the sun and they then become allergenic causing sunburn or reactions on the skin.
A course of my PEAU NETTE gummies provides the necessary nutrients to prepare the skin and soothe imperfections:

  • Turmeric which protects the skin from oxidative stress,

  • Nettle which acts directly on imperfections and regulates sebum production (responsible for the appearance of imperfections),

  • Burdock root which supports the detoxification of the body while having a depurative and anti-inflammatory action thanks to its large quantity of flavonoids,

  • Bio-ceramosides, a patented plant complex of phytoceramides and DGDG (digalactosyldiacylglycerol) which restore the skin barrier by providing these membrane lipids, essential for good cell junction. They also have a role of unifying complexion and hydration, a complete result!

Prepare the skin with a varied and colorful diet:

Fruits and vegetables are wonderful allies for the well-being of the skin and the list of their benefits is considerable… Consuming them daily acts on the well-being of the skin and the body.

The most beneficial are:

  • Beta-carotenes otherwise called provitamins A (tomatoes, green vegetables, carrots, sweet potato, apricots, melon, citrus fruits) which stimulate the production of melanin.
  • Foods rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C (parsley, lemon, pepper, broccoli) (a reducing agent that will oxidize instead of the components of the skin to better protect them). This phenomenon results in a lightening of the complexion and a redensification of the dermis.
  • Foods rich in vitamin E (almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, salmon, sardines, first cold-pressed oils, etc.), otherwise known as tocopherols, a powerful so-called “true” antioxidant, which acts as an anti-free radical: it protects cells of the skin against aging and helps the epidermis to remain supple and smooth.

The more colorful our (seasonal) fruits and vegetables are, the richer they are in antioxidants, thus forming a protective film on the epidermis.

Drink water !

Getting into the habit of drinking water throughout the day allows the skin to flush out toxins and hydrate the skin. Children, with higher water needs, are more likely to become dehydrated during hot weather. Water represents 75% of an infant's weight, and around the age of 9 years 65% of their weight. A proportion which, with age, decreases.
If they don't have a passion for plain water, flavor your insulated flasks the day before with fresh seasonal fruit infusions. Leave to infuse all night and enjoy this cocktail of benefits! Some ideas to inspire you:

  • With red fruits: a handful of raspberries, currants, blackberries, blueberries and a sprig of fresh mint.
  • Peaches and thyme: a peach cut into pieces, 1/2 lemon in slices and 1 sprig of fresh thyme.
  • Watermelon and strawberries: quarters of watermelon without the skin, a few strawberries cut into pieces and 1 sprig of fresh mint.

2- Find the right cream to prevent acne from appearing during sun exposure

Sunscreen and acne do not have the reputation of mixing well, and yet! A sunscreen suitable for acne-prone skin is essential to let the skin breathe.

How to choose a good sunscreen for acne-prone skin?

Choose a gentle sunscreen, that is to say without oxybenzone, octocrylene, avobenzone, without organic filters known for their irritant nature and their potential character of endocrine disruptors.

Choose a light sunscreen that lets the skin breathe: a non-comedogenic cream that prevents pores from clogging and thus prevents the formation of acne and blackheads (comedones).

 What sunscreens do OUATE offer?

My 1,2,3 sun mist for the body that vaporizes like a mist, practical for not forgetting any area.

My 1,2,3 sunscreen for the face that applies like a cream. A push of pressure delicately delivers the right dose thanks to its fine and precise tip.

How often should you apply your sunscreen?

To combine protection with effectiveness after each swim, and every 2 hours, renew the application of the cream on all exposed parts of the body. If the skin perspires, if it is rubbed against fabrics (clothing or a bath towel) and if it takes advantage of the joys of bathing, the cream is naturally erased. Since its mission as a barrier against UV rays is no longer effective, nothing is more important than reapplying cream to the face and body in order to be perfectly protected.

Good reflexes to adopt when exposing your skin to the sun:

Respect schedules: always better not to expose yourself to the hottest hours of the day (between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.) and gradually to get the skin used to it and let it adapt to UV rays. As it can irritate the skin, it is important to give it time to calm down and rehydrate between each exposure. The best: start with a quarter of an hour the first day and gradually lengthen over the days.
Remember to wear a hat or cap throughout the exhibits.

3- Why is it important to continue your routine and avoid the rebound effect?

All year round the skin is put to the test by pollution, cold, wind, sun... various factors that weaken it. In order to protect, cleanse and moisturize it, even in summer and all the more so for skin with imperfections, a suitable care routine is the secret to preserving it. So we don't skip daily skin cleansing!
  • Impurities, pollution, excess sebum or sunscreen residue: in the evening, the epidermis is thoroughly cleansed with gentle micellar water with a neutral pH that respects the skin's balance.

  • For what ? Because the skin has perspired, cleaning it eliminates cream residues that could clog pores and cause reactions.

We also do not overlook the hydration of the face after this gentle cleansing. Moisturizing the skin regulates excess sebum, protects it from external aggressions while restoring its hydrolipidic film.

It would be a shame not to take advantage of the benefits of vitamin D offered by the sun when the skin of our preteens, or of our teenagers, is going through a phase of acne. It's a matter of common sense and already acquired habits to maintain and persevere throughout their adult life.
